how to make impossible things
My entire creative philosophy boils down to 1 + 1 = 3. It reminds me to strive for the impossible in every detail. And the “+” quietly celebrates meaningful connection. Because it’s not just the ingredients — it’s how you combine them with purpose and vision.
So how do you make impossible things? You successfully solve that equation, one detail at a time — a few thousand times a day — until you run out of time. Simple, yet demanding.
This mantra guided me early on as I helped transform a boutique design studio into a live-action and VFX powerhouse. That’s where I first developed my integrated approach and signature style, which often combines inventing extraordinary visuals and then playfully grounding them in down-to-earth humanity, narrative depth, and meaning.
Since then, I’ve collaborated with 35 of the Fortune 100 companies, tallying over 6 billion YouTube hits and billions more elsewhere.
Over the past 3 years, my daily and lifelong quest for that elusive “1 + 1 = 3” magic has fueled my passion for developing and perfecting a comprehensive Hybrid Intelligence workflow with a strong live-action core.
Why? Well, for one, I’ve been a longtime advocate of improving the creative process itself — creating new tools like Creative Story Mapping and Creative Sprints (brought over from my first career as a TV screenwriter).
Secondly, I realized my versatility was rare — and a source of strength. I’ve inadvertently become one of the few people who’s fluent in all three production techniques. I’ve directed over 200 projects using Traditional production. Become a leader in VFX and design. And mastered generative AI’s vicissitudes, pitfalls and miracles.
What I learned along the way is that no single approach works as a reliable, stand-alone content-creation methodology. But combining all of the approaches together — strategically and organically — makes the impossible a bit more doable.
And that little bit of progress makes a huge difference, every time.
